Tally on Cloud: Cost, Licences and How to Move Your Books

Tally on Cloud means running the TallyPrime you already own on a cloud server instead of a desktop in the accounts room. Your team logs in from the office, from home or from a client site, and sees the same screens and the same company data. Tally itself doesn't change. Where it runs does.

The reason businesses call us about it is almost never "we want the cloud". It's a hard disk that died in GST filing week. Or a CA who needs the books on a Saturday. Or a branch emailing Excel exports to head office so somebody can re-key them into Tally on Monday.

What is Tally on Cloud?

Tally on Cloud is a setup where your TallyPrime or Tally ERP 9 licence runs on a cloud server, and every user reaches it through a secure remote session over the internet. The data lives on the server, not on one office PC, so several people can work in the same company at the same time from anywhere.

You can get it two ways. Tally Solutions now sells its own service, TallyPrime Cloud Access. Managed hosts like us rent you a server, install your licence on it, and look after backups, security, printers and users. Either way, you keep paying Tally's own licence or subscription as before.

How much does Tally on Cloud cost?

Our managed plans start at ₹699 per user per month. That covers the server, nightly backups, the security setup and our 24/7 support desk, with no setup fee hiding in the quote and no long lock-in. Three things push the price above the starting figure:

  • Users. Each person who logs in counts. A two-person accounts team plus a CA who checks in at quarter-end is three.
  • Data size. A company with ten years of vouchers needs more storage and memory than one opened last April.
  • Edition and add-ons. TDL customisations run on the server as they do locally, but they're part of what we size for.

Send us your Tally edition, user count and data size and you'll have a written quote the same working day. Adding a user later takes minutes, not a new server. Current plans are on our Tally on Cloud page.

TallyPrime Cloud Access or a managed Tally host?

Since Tally launched its own cloud service, this is the first thing finance heads ask us, and it's a fair question. Here's what Tally lists on its site as of October 2026: TallyPrime Cloud Access runs on Oracle Cloud, you reach it through a browser or a client app, it needs an existing TallyPrime licence, and you buy it through a Tally partner. The Personal pack is ₹600 per user per month and the Performance pack ₹750, both plus 18% GST, on 3, 6 or 12-month terms.

For a business on a current TallyPrime licence with a simple setup, that's a sensible option. A managed host earns its fee when the setup isn't simple:

  • You're still on Tally ERP 9. Cloud Access is a TallyPrime service; we host ERP 9 as well.
  • You depend on TDL customisations or add-ons and want them tested on the server before cut-over day.
  • You'd rather someone else moved the data, set up the printers and checked everything with your accountant.
  • You want one support number, answered 24/7, for logins, printing, backups and restores.

Compare like for like before you decide: the total per month including GST, the term you're committing to, and who you call when something stops working at 11 pm on the last day of the quarter.

Do I need a new Tally licence?

No. The licence you already own moves to the cloud server. We install and activate it there during migration, whether it's TallyPrime or Tally ERP 9, Silver or Gold.

One thing to check first. Silver is Tally's single-user edition. If more than one person needs to be in the books at the same time (usually the whole point of moving), you'll want Gold. Sort that out with your Tally partner before cut-over day, not on the morning of it.

Is my accounting data safe on a cloud server?

Safer than it is under a desk. Think about what the office PC actually has: no proper firewall, often one shared Windows login, and a backup routine that depends on somebody remembering.

On a managed server your data sits behind a firewall that only lets your users in, every connection is encrypted, each person has their own login, and backups run automatically every night to separate storage. If a laptop is stolen or ransomware hits the office network, the books aren't on it. And if you ever leave, you get a complete copy of your company files and backups before the server is switched off. No exit charge.

Will Tally feel slow over the internet?

For voucher entry and everyday reports, no. Tally does its work on the server; what travels over your connection is a light remote session carrying the screen and your keystrokes. Ordinary office broadband or a 4G hotspot is enough.

Where cloud Tally does get slow is on underpowered shared servers. Heavy reports on a large company file need memory, and a host that packs too many customers onto one machine will show it on the last day of the month. Ask any provider, including us, how the server is sized for your data.

Can I still print invoices and export to Excel?

Yes. Invoices print on the printer next to you, and Excel and PDF exports download to your own computer. We set printers up during migration and check them with your accountant before go-live, because small things like a misaligned invoice decide whether the team likes the new setup in week one.

How to move Tally to the cloud in four steps

  1. Trial on a copy. We load a recent backup of your company data onto the cloud server, and your team uses it alongside the office PC for a few days. The live books don't change yet.
  2. Check what matters every day. Print an invoice, run your TDLs, export the reports your CA asks for. If something behaves differently, this is the cheap moment to find out.
  3. Cut over on a quiet day. Take a final backup, restore it on the server, and stop entry on the office PC the same day. Running both for real is how you end up with split books, and nobody enjoys untangling those.
  4. Set the house rules. One named login per person, backup and restore expectations in writing, and a support number your accountant can actually call. Ours answers 24/7.

Most businesses send us their details in the morning and have their accountants working on cloud Tally the same day.

Mistakes we see when businesses move

  • Moving in a GST or TDS deadline week. Pick a quiet one. In practice, the week most people decide is the one right after a disk failure.
  • One login shared by the whole team. It feels simpler, until you need to know who changed a voucher.
  • Keeping the office copy running "just in case". Two live copies of the books drift apart within days.
  • Choosing a host on the per-user price alone. Ask how the server is sized, how often backups run, and what happens to your data if you leave.

For most SMEs this is the easiest first step onto the cloud: no new software to learn and no process change. Finance teams that would push back on an ERP project take to cloud Tally within a week. If you're starting to outgrow Tally itself, read ERP vs point solutions next, and if you're moving more than Tally, our cloud migration checklist covers the rest.
